    Description

Very rare and original, 1920’s Complete Deck of heavy weight, Paperboard Great Mogul Playing Cards in near mint condition in their original paper wrapper. This fantastic Deck of early 20th Century, unused, Belgian-made Playing Cards are contained in their original, paper wrapper and, as a whole measure approx. 3 1/2" by 2 3/8" by 1 1/2" thick. The Cards are printed on a very thick, porous porous paperboard stock and the backs of each Card has a red-on-yellow, diagonal, diamond shaped pattern.
The Cards have never been used and retain the original paper wrapper. The wrapper is printed in blue and gold gilt ink with the front showing a "mogul" holding a scepter with the words "GREAT MOGUL” above and below the image. The back of the wrapper features a spread wing eagle trade mark along with text that reads “The Celebrated Eagle Brand” and “Belgian Make”.
While various types and styles of "Great Mogul" Brand Playing Cards were manufactured and sold beginning in about 1825 and continuing to the early 20th century. This Deck has been documented as having been manufactured by A. Van Genechten are often misdated because they have the look and feel of 19th century Playing Cards but in fact they were made for export to India as temple offerings not for game play. In fact, the cards are so thick that it would be impossible to shuffle them in the usual manner. We unconditionally guarantee that these Playing Cards are original and were manufactured and distributed by A. Van Genechten in the early 20th century.
This very rare, and original, 1920’s complete and unused Deck of Great Mogul Playing Cards is in excellent to near mint condition. The Cards themselves are in near mint to mint condition - clean and crisp with razor sharp corners and no wear or damage of any kind. The paper wrapper is clean and crisp - mostly intact with a tear at one of the end flaps. See the scans below for a good indication of the condition of the original wrapper.
