Rare and original, 1920’s Deck of Whitbread Brewery Ltd / India Pale Ale Advertising Playing Cards in its original box designed by Alf Cook Ltd.
The original Box measures approx 2 7/8" by 3 3/4" and the cards themselves each measure 2 1/2" by 3 1/2". The Deck includes all 52 Playing Cards (lacking the original Joker) and was manufactured by the Universal Playing Card Co. Ltd. Of Leeds, England. The Deck retains the original, slip case / telescoping Box.
The Card fronts are typical designs of the period while the Ace of Spades features the trade mark of the Universal Playing Card Company. The back of each card features an image of a British style, early 20th century long neck Bottle of Whitbread’s India Pale Ale along with text that reads “Whitbread’s Pale Ale in Bottles / Clear and Brilliant”. The Box features a mounted playing card with its back displayed from a similar but slightly different Whitbread’s Pale Ale Deck. The back of the box features text that reads in part “Whitbread’s London Stout / Oatmeal Stout / India Pale Ale / Bouble Brown (A Fine Strong Ale)”.
This rare and original, Deck of ca1920’s Whitbread Brewery India Pale Ale Advertising Playing Cards is in very good condition. The Deck of Cards itself includes the 52 Playing Cards but lacks the Joker. There is some soiling to the cards from use but no significant physical damage. The paperboard Box is complete and attractive but has some soiling and edge wear to the outer case and a split at one of the side panels to the interior case.
A very rare and original, 1920’s Deck of Whitbread Brewery Ltd / India Pale Ale Advertising Playing Cards in its original box and a fantastic addition to any collection!!
