Veteran collectors know that Topps often “tested” a handful of packs of new products at select candy stores in Brooklyn. Many rare Topps test issues went through this process.
Directly from a former Topps executive comes an amazing example of an unused near mint unfolded wrapper for the test issue of Garbage Pail Kids, issued months before the actual series 1 hit the shelves.
As we don’t believe a pack of these cards has ever surfaced, it is impossible to say whether the test featured the exact same cards as series one, or variations.
Regardless, this is likely the RAREST Garbage Pail Kids item ever offered to the collecting public!
