My name is Wesley and I´m a chef who fondles cards in my spare time (magician and cardist, well I would like to think I am). I graduated from the College of Magic in 2000 and packed the old top hat, wand and rabbit away because, as an adolescent at the tender age of 16, magic really didn't get me in any cool books; back then that was all that mattered. Well i thought it did, and i was wrong!
Two decades Lost ...
17 years went by and I never touched magic, not even a french drop. One day my girlfriend found out I used to go to "Hogwarts" when I was younger and now I had to show her something. I only could remember one trick and it was her reaction to my performance that inspired all that I am doing right now. I even returned to the college to praise and thank my mentors for the huge impact they had in my life and how they played a massive part in who I am today; funny thing is I only realized all this a year ago!
Here we are...
Jinto's and Jokers playing cards was created as a way of representing Cape Town and our street identity, the word "jinto" (thanks to my great friend Derra) in its harshest translation means Prostitute in Cape Afrikaans Slang, but it can also be used in a lighter term meaning hustler, which is what sleight of hand is built on, and what we here constantly find ourselves doing: Hustling.
I really was lucky to have worked with such an amazing and gifted designer, Miss Kayleigh Garret, who got my ideas and made this beautiful deck come to life! You are a serious talent..
I hope to build on this and be able to give back to the magic or cardistry community here in Cape Town.
