Description

This exquisite wedding gown dates to the late 1940s, inspired by the gown worn by Princess Elizabeth for a post WW11 return to romance (and a return as well to the use of bolts and bolts of fabric for dresses, which had been greatly restricted during the war years). Ivory taffeta gown is trained and also has a very romantic back bustle-like creation which is tulle-lined in order to make it stand out just under the waist seam. Gorgeous lace covers the wide shoulder straps which are also tulle lined, and covers the entire bodice as well. The wide long skirting is lined in tulle to flare the dress better, and there are 25 covered buttons with loops down the back, one is missing.
In very good vintage condition and fully wearable, this dress has no underarm discoloration although there are a couple of very faint water stains on the long train. The only damage is a small area where there is some tearing, about 2x2 inches, on one of the wrap around parts to the side of the dress. A competent seamstress could better conceal it, but it isn't particularly noticeable unless you are looking straight at it, due to the tulle lining.
This dress has traditional horsehair trim all along the hem to make it flare when walking, and measures 32 bust, 24 waist, open hips and a front length of 56 inches with a back length from shoulder to train end of 72 inches.
I measure each item at the bust, waist and hips where appropriate as well as the length of the garment.
