The patch is considered a companion patch to the twenty position patches that were worn by officers and employees of the Pa. Game Commission.
The uniform patches were worn on official agency uniforms from 1965 until 1979.
At that time the agency abandoned the policy of having employees wear position specific patches on their uniforms and went to a standard patch for all uniformed employees that read “Pennsylvania Game Commission, Established 1895”.
The 20 position patches and this one companion patch are now sought after by collectors of Pennsylvania Game Commission items and artifacts.
The reason this patch is considered a companion patch and not part of the collectible patch series is that this patch was forgotten when the agency gained approval from the state legislature to make use of the position uniform patches on official agency uniforms.
Such action does require approval by the State Of Pennsylvania’s Legislature.
Being it was forgotten and had not been ordered by the agency for production, the agency went ahead and placed the order in hopes of gaining approval from the state legislature when the uniform patches arrived.
When the order finally arrived, quite a bit of time later, the patches were issued to the 8 Commissioners but they were never allowed to place them on their issued uniforms as the legislature never did officially approve their wearing of these patches.
Because they never gained official approval and were never worn by the agency commissioners, they are not considered part of the official agency collection of position uniform patches.
They are however a very, very important part of the entire collection as they are part of the agency’s official uniform patch history.
Because the patches were never worn and few were issued and made, these patches are very, very hard to locate and obtain.
In this eBay auction you will have a chance to obtain one for your collection of agency memorabilia.
The Commissioners of the Agency had hoped to wear this specific patch on his their issued uniform.
There were and presently are 8 of these volunteers / employees in the agency.
The 8 Commissioners would have each been from a different section of the state and would have done the main part of their work in the agency’s central headquarters in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
The Commissioners of this state agency act like a Board Of Directors in a Company.
They oversee and approve all of the management procedures, operations and directives of the agency.
Each one of the 8 Commissioners represents a different section of the state very similar to how a senator or congressman does.
The 8 Commissioners were not paid a set salary and only were reimbursed certain expenses.
As such they donate and volunteer their time to serve the citizens of the state as representatives of the area they are selected for.
The Commissioners are appointed by the current governor in charge of the state at the time a vacancy on the board of commissioners opens up.
These patches are very, very hard to acquire and very rarely seen on Internet auction sites.
In addition to this, the original uniform patch series and this companion patch are only available second market from a collector because the uniform patches were never sold to the public by the Pa Game Commission.
The patch is guaranteed to be an original and not duplication.
This very sought after patch features an uncut Keystone Shape Border of Gold with a black twill material background.
In the center of the patch is the State of Pennsylvania Coat of Arms.
Surrounding the coat of arms is a gold border containing the words “
Established 1895
”
in blue lettering.
Outside and above this lettering is the word “
Pennsylvania
” with “
Game Commission
” below the border.
All this lettering is in gold.
Above the wording “Pennsylvania” is the position title of this patch “
Commissioner
” in white lettering.
The patch measures 4” by 4 ¼” has never been sewn on any garment and is in excellent condition as can be seen in the photograph.

In doing so, it will include delivery confirmation along with barcode addressing.
