Speedy Tip:
Single diaphragm boosters:
Work well with four wheel drum systems or front disc brakes and rear drum applications.  These braking systems are lighter than the four wheel disc systems and work well on an older car because drum brakes were a common feature, especially on the rear axle.
Dual diaphragm boosters:
Dual diaphragm brake boosters are needed for four wheel disc systems because they can produce a higher level of brake assist even if their physical size is smaller. Dual diaphragm brake boosters tend to give extra braking even when the vacuum from the intake manifold is low.
Booster Sizes:
Power brake boosters require 17" of vacuum or more to function properly. Smaller brake boosters are great for tight spaces but may require up to 22" of vacuum for proper function.

The Right Stuff performance brake systems vacuum pump is a must for any vacuum power assist vehicle with less than 15" of vacuum at idle. The electric vacuum pump kit is used when the proper amount of vacuum is not being generated. Utilizing a 12v easy wire system, the pump produces up to 20" of vacuum. This electric vacuum pump will provide the proper amount of vacuum to your brake booster when running a high-lift or aftermarket cam. Hooks directly up to your booster. Kit includes all necessary components for an easy install. The kit contains a vacuum switch that cycles the pump on & off.

Summary:
Upon initial installation the pump would not shut off. After discussions with both the Speedway tech. and the distributor, and several tests, the distributor sent me another switch. At that time the pump would shut off for one second then turn back on. I noticed the casting separation marks on the switch were very rough causing leakage in the hose lines. After filing and sanding these imperfections and adding hose clamps on every hose end, including at the booster, the unit functioned properly. You definitely need a vacuum gauge reading before talking to the distributor.

Summary:
Installed this pump in a 1965 Chevy C10 due to the engine having a large cam and insufficient vacuum for the brake booster. The intake vacuum was only 15 inches of mercury and the booster needed more than 21 inches. The pump installed easily. The only issue that was problematic was that the hoses provided would not properly seal unless I installed hose clamps on all hose connections. These seals were not provided with the kit. I did install this pump on the fender well of the truck, which worked, but led to some noticeable oil-canning. As an improvement, I will be fabricating a heavier mount for this pump to reduce the vibration. This pump works great. I'm now getting a vacuum of 25 inches of mercury now. The brake booster now works great.
