    This is not your typical off the rack ensemble. It is stunning and clearly made with couture quality craftsmanship and fabrics. The coat has hand stitched puckering over the entire surface. The amount of work this took is mind boggling. There are thousands of stitches to create the raised pattern that reminds me of coral.
    The velvet fabric is either a silk or silk rayon blend. It has a wonderful soft drape and glows. The dress is lined in a black lightweight silk. The coat is lined in a very thick satin. I believe the large spangle sequins were added at a later date. They don't look original to the set. They are loosely stitched on. They could be removed, but if you want to keep them, some areas will need to be re-tacked.
    The dress
    has a simple straight cut. No wonder the kick pleat is a little pulled. This baby is meant to offer a tight silhouette. Darted bodice with interior elastic around shoulders (to hold things in place). Back original metal zipper works nicely. Bottom hem has sewn in weights.
    The coat
    is heavy weighing just over 5 pounds. It has fabric covered snap closure that's hidden under the collar. It looks wonderful worn open as well. Cropped 3/4 sleeves which would look divine with long gloves (not included).
    The condition is extraordinary considering it age. On inspection I found:
    Loose spangle trim.
    Small area of stress on back kick pleat. Not bad or noticeable but will need a couple of stitches to be perfect. See photo.
    Slight wear/ velvet creasing under right arm hole. This might improve with dry cleaning. See photo.
    The outfit isn't dirty, but has been in storage for a long time. I recommend professional dry cleaning to freshen and restore to it's original splendor.
